Time Area Theory

Time Area Theory

Introduction

Albert Einstein is said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

I began writing this paper a few years ago as a sequel to another writing, that lays the foundation for Time Area Theory, titled Something More. In my mind it was clear what I wanted to say. Yet, as I would write, there were so many levels of complexity that my explanation seemed scattered and confusing. I hit writers block. For the last couple of years I have simply spoken with others about this theory. It was my hope that I could become better at explaining it. I listened carefully for responses. Does this theory seem sensible to others? Responses were positive. Hopefully this writing will continue to communicate in the same approachable way.

I would like to introduce what I call Time Area Theory. I’ll start in this introduction with a brief description and then offer a series of topical considerations. Please keep in mind as you read about this theory, I am only trying to introduce the idea. It will become evident that I have done much background work and writing about the separate topics. I am not trying to present all of the details in this writing. My goal is to present Time Area Theory as plausible; and worth further consideration.

Regardless of what you have heard in popular media; in fundamental, or classical physics there are only four established dimensions. There are three recognized dimensions of space; height, width, and depth; and one dimension of time, past to future. That’s it. Any number of probable dimensional theories discussed beyond these four dimensions is theoretical. Including Time Area Theory.

The space we exist in is a three dimensional spacial area. In this spacial area, each dimension taken separately is a conceptual length or measurable line representing either height, width, or depth. If we take any two of the separate dimensions of space, for example width and depth; and pair them together they form a conceptual plane in space. We can imagine this plane as like a piece of paper, but with no real thickness. Take all three spacial dimensions and combined together they form an area. This is the actual spacial area in which we exist and move about.

Time is recognized as a single dimension. Like one of the three spacial dimensions it is a conceptual length or a measurable line proceeding from past to future. The three dimensions of space and one of time are referred to in a simple mathematical description; 3+1. Time is called the fourth dimension. It was Albert Einstein and another less popularly known genius Hermann Minkowski who established time as the  fourth dimension.

Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity demonstrated that time slows down as we speed up our movement through space; relative to, or in relation to other people, or anything that is not moving as fast. Put almost to concisely; as we speed up, time for us slows down. This is relative or in comparison to anything else not speeding up. So as we speed up, or slow down for that matter, we experience different measurable lengths of the dimension of time in comparison to each other. For the speedier one, where time is slowed, this is called Time Dilation

I would like to highlight that Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity actually indicates there are multiple separate lengths or measurable lines of time. Because we are on two separate measurable lengths time this could indicate we are on separate lines of the dimension of time, past to future. I realize the argument could be; we are all on the same exact time line, and there is only one single dimension of time, upon which we are all traveling at different speeds. I am certainly agreeing time is a dimension that we share, flowing from past to future. Still, I would like to submit there is a problem of perceiving time as one single dimensional line shared by everything.

There is a difficulty with everyone and everything all being on the same exact single line of the dimension of time. If we were on the exact same single dimension of time, and traveling at different speeds past to future, we would appear in and out of each others temporal reality. Clearly we are not on each others exact same single dimension of time, rather our own. Each of us, slightly out of synchronicity with one another, as the Theory of Special Relativity demonstrates.

It would be more correct to recognize we are all on our own dimensional time line flowing from past to future. Even more, it is a better construct of thinking to acknowledge we are actually sharing in a plane of time. Because we are sharing a plane of time, rather than the exact same single dimensional line of time, we still are able experience one another’s existence, although existing slightly out of temporal synchronicity. A plane indicates a two dimensional construct. Time Area Theory considers the possibility that like space, time might have more than one single dimension.

If the established past to future dimension of time were likened to the depth of time, the shared moment of now could be likened to the width of time. Just as we experience the past to future flow as the depth of time, we are also experiencing the width of time as a collective sense of now. Again, as Special Relativity demonstrates we are slightly of temporal synchronicity. This indicates we on slightly separate flows of time, past to future, and are therefore on the shared plane of time.

Consider for a moment, holding to the idea of one single dimensional line of time, shared by everyone and everything, as like having one single road heading past to future and every single vehicle in existence traveling on that single road at different speeds. I’m suggesting we consider time as more like a super highway of countless lanes of time heading from past to future. We are all headed the same direction past to future, but at slightly different speeds on a shared plane of many lanes. One might counter again, what if it’s just a really wide single road? This is my point exactly, and the same as saying multiple lanes on a plane.

Once we are able to theorize time as having more than one dimension this opens us to new constructs of understanding of both time and space. This construct of a shared plane of time indicates at least two dimensions of time. Time is not only the forth dimension, past to future; time is a fifth dimension, the shared moment of now.

I think Einstein and Minkowski were sold short. I understand why they were. Imagine trying to open the minds of Newtonian Physicists in the early 1900’s to the new idea that time qualified as the fourth dimension. New ideas are always suspect, and rightly should be until carefully considered.

Time Area Theory considers the theoretical plausibly of two dimensions of time. Then further conceives; what if the dimensions of time follow the same construct as the dimensions of space. It is theoretically plausible, that just as there are three dimensions of space that we clearly observe, there may be three dimensions to time following the same construct. As space proceeds from line, to plane, and then to area. I am  suggesting we can theorize a reasonable construct of time proceeding from line, to plane, and then to area. A third dimension of time would create an area of time just as three dimensions of space creates an area of space.

A quick clarification; fundamental or classical physics recognizes space as having three dimensions. The three dimensions of space are referred to as the first three dimensions. Time is recognized as the fourth dimension. As mentioned, space as the first three, and time as the fourth dimension are often depicted in the mathematically as 3+1. I have presented that Einstein and Minkowski actually demonstrated a 3+2 construct; 3 dimensions of space + 2 dimensions of time. Following the established pattern I refer to these +2 time dimensions as the fourth and fifth dimensions of time.

Time Area Theory suggests that time could follow the same construct of space and have three dimensions. Following the established pattern of classical physics I will refer to the three dimensions of space as the first, second and third, and in Time Area Theory the three dimensions of time as the fourth, fifth, and sixth. Following the pattern this would be mathematically depicted as 3+3.

It was my goal in this introduction to communicate the basic concepts involved in Time Area Theory. Although we are not immediately consciously aware of a third dimension of time, referred to as the sixth dimension, I will assert there is evidence for it. In the next portions of this little writing I hope to generate thinking and necessary debate around Time Area Theory as a plausible theoretical construct.

I’m endeavoring to share how this theory might address many other complex questions, even mysteries, concerning current theories and understandings of space and time. I will provide enough explanation to spark thinking then suggest Time Area Theory’s possible application. It is one of my goals to keep the explanations of the questions and mysteries as approachable. The challenge here being more to myself; if Time Area Theory is sensible, I should be able to explain it simply.

Dimensions

The other day I was sitting with a young friend. He was sharing about the work he has been doing with deep learning computer programs, a subset of artificial intelligence. He shared that their program took into consideration an almost infinite amount of dimensions. I asked him to clarify by dimensions did he mean probable outcomes. To which he immediately affirmed this meaning, and on with the conversation we went.

Besides high intelligence, I could say that this young man has many wonderful dimensions to his personality reflecting his positive characteristics. While these uses of the word dimension at a low resolution of meaning are all valid, it’s important for this discussion to consider a more focused definition of the word dimension. Especially with there being so many theories regarding dimensions surrounding us. I am speaking only of dimensions of space and time as they are recognized in fundamental physics.

Let’s go to a good old-fashioned Merrium-Webster Dictionary. I’m adding (of) to this dictionary definition to smooth out the reading. Dimension is defined as “the length, (of) width, height, or depth of something: a measurement in one direction (of) the length” As discussed previously in fundamental physics there are three recognized spacial dimensions, “the length, (of) width, height, or depth of something.” Each of the three spacial dimensions and the one time dimension are “a measurement in one direction (of) the length.”

One Dimensional Space – A Conceptual Line

One dimension of space is a length or measurable conceptual line of space. Conceptual is an important qualification. A single dimension, in itself, is really a concept, or mental idea, of a measurable length. Separately the three spacial dimensions can each be thought of occurring as conceptual lines. Any of the three measurable spacial dimensions thought of individually are; width or left – right, height or up – down, depth or back – forth, and in themselves only represent one single dimension of space. Another important qualification; one dimensional lines of space can measure infinitely short or infinitely long.

Two Dimensional Space – A Conceptual Plane

Any of the single spacial dimensions; height, width or depth when paired together offer the conceptual idea of a plane, or two dimensional space. That is to say, width and height, or height and depth, or width and depth when paired together create a conceptual plane of space. Two dimensional planes of space can measure infinitely small or infinitely large.

Three Dimensional Space – Actual Area

All three single spacial dimensions combined together; width, height, and depth, constitute the three dimensional area of space in which we actually exist. One dimensional lines and two dimensional planes of space remain ideas, or concepts of space. Three dimensional space is the reality of the spacial area surrounding us. Three dimensional areas of space can measure infinitely small or infinitely vast.

The Fourth Dimension – Time

Much of history recognized only the three dimensions of space. Time was not an acknowledged dimension. It was a bold thinking Hermann Minkowski who was first to conjecture, or theorize, time as another dimension. It was Einstein who provided the theoretical construct to actually qualify time as another dimension through his first Theories of Relativity published in 1905. These first Theories of Relativity are now known as the Theory of Special Relativity. Einstein’s kept thinking and wrote the General Theory of Relativity in 1915. In order to differentiate the earlier 1905 theories from the later 1915 General Theory of Relativity, they began calling the earlier 1905 theory the Theory of Special Relativity.

Albert Einstein was one of the boldest thinkers of the last century. Einstein formulated much of this work in what he called thought experiments wherein he mentally contemplated ideas, and then boldly wrote about them. As we move to a brief consideration of how and why time was able to be established as a fourth dimension it is best if I let Einstein’s writings do it for themselves. What follows is an exert from Einstein’s book published in 1920 Titled Relativity – The Special and General Theory, wherein he considers time as a fourth dimension based on Minkowski’s work.

“Space is a three-dimensional continuum. By this we mean that it is possible to describe the position of a point (at rest) by means of three numbers (coordinates) x, y, z, and that there is an indefinite number of points in the neighborhood of this one, the position of which can be described by coordinates such as x1, y1, z1, which may be as near as we choose to the respective values of the coordinates x, y, z of the first point. In virtue of the later property we speak of a ‘continuum’ and owing to the fact that there are three coordinates we speak of it as being ‘three-dimensional.’Similarly, the world of physical phenomena which was briefly called ‘world’ by Minkowski is naturally four-dimensional in the space-time sense. For it is composed of individual events, each of which is described by four numbers, namely, three space coordinates x, y, z and a time coordinate, the time-value t. The ‘world’ is in this sense also a continuum; for to every event there are as many ‘neighboring’ events (realized or at least thinkable) as we care choose, the coordinates x1, y1, z1, t1 of which differ by an indefinitely small amount from those of the event x, y, z, t originally considered. That we have not been accustomed to regard the world in this sense as a four-dimensional continuum is due to the fact that in physics, before the advent of the theory of relativity, time played a different and more independent role, as compared with the space coordinates. It is for this reason that we have been in the habit of treating time as an independent continuum. As a matter of fact, according to classical mechanics, time is absolute, i.e., it is independent of the position and the condition of motion of the system of coordinates. We see this express in the last equation of the Galilean transformation (t’ = t).” (Relativity, Einstein)

We also hear in this same publication Einstein referring to his own Theories of Relativity and the recognition of time as a fourth dimension with this following homage to Minkowski. “These inadequate remarks give the reader only a vague notion of the important idea contributed by Minkowski. Without it the general theory of relativity, of which the fundamental ideas are developed following pages, would perhaps have got no farther than its long clothes.”(Relativity, Einstein)

The description of “long clothes” above is an old term for baby clothes which cover the feet. Einstein actually had a creative use of words and dry sense of humor that showed up in many of his writings and sayings.

It’s important to honor Hermann Minkowski as brilliant contributor to our understanding of time and space. “Hermann Minkowski was a German mathematician who developed the geometrical theory of numbers and who made numerous contributions to number theory, mathematical physics, and the theory of relativity. His idea of combining the three dimensions a physical space with that of time into a four-dimensional “Minkowski space” laid the mathematical foundations for Albert Einstein special theory of relativity.” (Encyclopedia Britannica)

For historical perspective Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity sent the world spinning in 1905. Minkowski in 1907 was able to then define time as a fourth dimension, and in 1908 coined the word Spacetime to describe this idea of combining space and time together.

A Fifth Dimension of Time

As introduced in the opening of this writing; Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity establishes you and I experience separate lengths of measurable time lines. Separate lengths indicate multiple lengths. The Theory of Special Relativity clearly establishes more than one length or measurable line of time between everything. The idea of there being more than one length of time is apparent even in the use of the word Relativity. Multiple lengths or measurable time lines indicate multiple single dimensions of time.

The Theory of Special Relativity demonstrates we have at least two separate flows or  time lines occurring between you and I. Others would introduce even more individual time lines. This leads to a plausible construct of shared planes of time. No doubt, we in our conscious temporal experience of time are headed the same direction; past to future. Yet, we are not on the exact same time line.

As I have previously explained, we can’t all be on the same exact single dimension of time. If we were on the exact same time line and traveling at different speeds we would appear in and out of each others temporal reality. Because we are not on each others exact line of time, rather our own, as the Theory of Special Relativity proves, we are actually sharing in a two dimensional plane of time. This is why we still experience one another’s existence, although existing slightly out of temporal synchronicity with each other.

This brings us directly back to Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and Minkowski’s World. Our having an individual time line not only established a forth dimension of time, it also establishes a fifth dimension of time as evidenced by our shared plane of time. Einstein and Minkowski established time is dimensional! In doing so they laid the theoretical foundation for time as not only the fourth dimension, the depth of time; time can be plausibly theorized as a fifth dimension, the width of time. Einstein and Minkowski were sold short!

By demanding we remain in a the limited construct of sharing the same exact single fourth dimension of time, we are actually in danger of nullifying the Theory of Special Relativity. What more, further in this writing you will see how remaining constrained to a single dimensional construct of time even calls into question the General Theory of Relativity. Time Area Theory will offer a construct of understanding time that actually more extensively substantiates both Einstein and Minkowski.

Just as Einstein shared how he based his work on the foundation of Minkowski’s and grew beyond infant “long clothes,” I’m confident they both would want us to continue to build upon their foundational work and continue to grow.

Time Area Theory – A Sixth Dimension of Time

Time Area Theory considers that time could dimensionally follow the same construct as space. Both space and time could each have three dimensions. As with space, so with time; the single dimensions combine proceeding from a one dimensional line, to a two dimensional plane, to a three dimensional area.

Try this little thought experiment with me. We exist in an area of three dimensional space. We conceivably can go anywhere in space. There are physical limitations. Our human bodies have to sustain life in certain suitable environments. We have limited individual temporal existence in a mortal human body. Still conceivably we could travel anywhere in the area of space.

The fourth dimension time, we recognize as the past to future flow and can likened to the back-forth, depth of time. The shared moment of now can likened to the left-right, width of time, and considered a fifth dimension. Conceptually adding the the up-down, height dimension to time. Doing so we conceive of an Area of Time. And as with space, we have the potential of anywhere; so with time, we have the potential of anytime.

Imagine a three dimensional time area wherein one could theoretically travel anywhere, and anytime. There would no longer be the constraint of time as we perceive it in a one dimensional time construct. A Time Area would offer freedom of movement through time just as an area of three dimensional space offers us freedom of movement through space. A Time Area would be in essence be infinite in all directions of time, and at the risk of the ultimate use of an auto-antonym a Time Area may appear timeless.

A Time Area isn’t something we move into and out of. It’s a place we already exist in, but are not readily aware of in our immediate waking conscious. We are only able to consciously perceive the Time Area in brief glimpses. Still, I will propose it is exactly how we, and all of reality, exists at a subatomic level. Time Area Theory offers a construct of understanding that could suggest at a subatomic level everything exists in three dimensions of space and in three dimensions of time. There is evidence of this 3+3 Spacetime surrounding us.

Back to Einstein’s quote on Minkowski’s “world,” The ‘world’ is in this sense also a continuum; for to every event there are as many ‘neighboring’ events (realized or at least thinkable) as we care choose,” (Relativity, Einstein) Time Area Theory a fuller understanding of Minkowski’s “world,” “Minkowski space,” or what we now refer to as Spacetime. It should be noted that the coining of the word Spacetime is also credited to Minkowski.

What I’m trying to propose here is a fuller understanding of Minkowski’s “world” or “Minkowski space.” There really is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes) Even as we go forward with Time Area Theory you will see ultimately when we reach the discussion pertaining to consciousness that I’m only echoing a collective thought process that has been shared throughout human history. (Carl Jung)

Considerations

This parallel construct of six dimensional Space and Time Areas sheds light on some interesting mysteries regarding; Quantum Leaps, Quantum Entanglement, Quantum Events, Light Cone, String Theories, Super String Theories, Holographic Theory Multiverse Theories, the Bending and Curving of Space, Worm Holes, Black Holes, Dark Energy and Matter. Time Area Theory also offers deeper understandings of Human Consciousness, and Subconsciousness, Synchronicity, and the Collective Unconscious.  Each of these subjects already have volumes upon volumes devoted to them. There’s no way to explore them exhaustively in one writing. I’m going to provide some understanding and highlight mysteries still associated with each topic in order to point out how Time Area Theory might contribute a reasonable explanation.

I am not out to stomp on these established scientific discoveries and theories in order to bolster Time Area Theory’s validity. Just the opposite. You’ll notice, I approach each topic with respect, acknowledgement, and in most cases complete agreement. With Time Area Theory I am offering a more extensive construct for thinking. Think of a set of shelves constructed to organize thought. Time Area Theory offers a set shelves to organize multiple scientific and psychological understandings and theories. Also, philosophical, theological and more areas of study that rest just beyond the parameters of this little writing.

Quantum Leaps

Niels Bohr back in 1913 first identified Quantum Leaps as he observed how electrons  jump from one orbit to another. There’s a lot that is known about this phenomenon. For example electrons will emit photons of energy as they do this. What is extremely interesting though, under scrutinizing observation, for over a century, it is evident that the electrons indeed leap from one orbit to another instantly. There is no evidence of the electrons existence in space between the orbits and no time elapses as they reappear in another orbit. To this day, it remains a mystery, as to how the leaps are instantaneous. They are in one place and then another.

What if everything actually exists in a three dimensional Time Area, that is as of yet, beyond our ability to observe. To our conscious minds, that are limited to our human sense of time, the electrons seemingly vanish and instantly reappear. A Time Area could explain the electrons ability to instantly appear in another orbit as they are not subject to the limitations of a one dimensional construct of time. Time Area Theory could suggest an explanation for the instantaneous nature of Quantum Leaps.

Quantum Entanglement

Subatomic particles can become entangled or bonded with each other. Imagine two tiny subatomic particles relationally linked to each other by some invisible connection called Entanglement. One particle spins clockwise and another entangled partner particle spins counterclockwise in a reflective bond. The two are separated from each other by any distance and the bond remains. As amazing as this is, if the clockwise spinning particle shifts to a counterclockwise spin; any distance away, say a thousand miles, the other entangled particle instantaneously shifts from a counterclockwise to a reflective clockwise spin.

Einstein theorized along with others that this phenomenon must still be limited to the speed of light. John Bell in 1964 proved Quantum Entanglement through experimentation. It’s not subject to the speed of light. It’s instantaneous. This experiment has been done with Entangled subatomic particles left on earth while their counterpart has been sent into outer space. Quantum Entanglement remains an instantaneous responsive bond. It is a mystery how Entangled particles simultaneously change to reflect each other regardless of the distance between them.

What if subatomic particles exist in a three dimensional Time Area? We experience them in our limited conscious perception of a single dimension of time, past to future, and remain perplexed. A Time Area offers a construct wherein at a subatomic level the connection between the particles is not subject to time as we humans experience it. Time Area Theory could offer an explanation the instantaneous responses associated with Quantum Entanglement.

Quantum Events

Near the end of the last millennium I read Gary Zukav’s book, The Dancing Wholly Masters. This popular writing for me, like many others, introduced Quantum Physics at a level that was approachable. My career and background has always been in the field of Human Services. Psychology has been my wheelhouse. The following discussion  surrounding what is known as the Double Slit Experiment brought Quantum Physics and Psychology into a collision course. It is more than a slightly influential part of why I am writing this paper.

The Double Slit Experiment has been around since 1801 when it was devised by Thomas Young. It helps us to deduce if something operates as individual particle of matter or as a wave of energy. The double slit experiment demonstrates these differences by projecting a material through two slits cut into a barrier. If the particles are acting as individual particles, such as pellets, the experiment results in a projection of two lines on a second plate set behind the first double slit barrier. If the particles are acting as a wave energy, such as waves in water, the experiment results in an interference pattern on the second plate set behind the first double slit barrier.

In the last century, the 1900’s, physicists became able to isolate electrons which were recognized as individual particles of matter. Like a pellet. Physicists subjected electron particles to the double slit experiment and expected the outcome should be two lines projected on the second plate indicating the electrons were acting as individual particles of matter. Instead when they projected electrons through the double slits an interference pattern denoting waves of energy appeared on the second plate. This didn’t make sense.

So they isolated the experiment down to a single stream of electron particles thereby supposedly eliminating the possibility of an interference pattern occurring. And still, an interference pattern denoting waves energy emerged. They couldn’t explain why elections were misbehaving, that is to say, why the electrons were not following the expected rules of classical physics. This is an incredible mystery, and by definition a Quantum Event, or a phenomenon at a quantum level.

Then things got even more mysterious, even a little spooky. When the experimenters observed the electrons with cameras they stopped misbehaving and acted like particles of matter, rather than waves of energy. The interference pattern reverted to two lines on the second plate when being observed. After further experimentation it became apparent that the conscious observation of the experimenters was the dynamic for the electrons to collapse from wave potentials of energy into particles of matter.

Physics and Psychology merged at a quantum level. We now know from Quantum Physics that subatomic particles exist in energy waves of potentials until observed by some form of consciousness. Once observed the wave energy potentials collapse and manifest to become particles of matter. Apparently, everything exists in a state of wave potentials of energy prior to conscious observation. Conscious observation, Psychology’s domain, is the dynamic that causes wave potentials to become particles of matter, Physics domain. This brings into question a mystery concerning the manifestation of reality itself.

As understood from Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle when in a state of wave potentials the particles can be anywhere in space. I would add with Time Area Theory anywhere and anytime. Time Area Theory works ideally to expound further as to why subatomic particles can potentially be anywhere, further substantiating Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle. In a Time Area a particle is not subject to one dimension of time, existing only in a single dimensional flow from past to future. In a the freedom of a Time Area a particle could exist anywhere because it concurrently exists anytime.

As considered earlier in this writing regarding Quantum Leaps and Quantum Entanglement, I am theorizing subatomic particles exist within a combined Spacetime Area. In Time Area Theory all potentials of both space and time can simultaneously exist. Subatomic particles in their ability to move from wave potentials to particles of matter are demonstrating their existence in a six dimensional Spacetime Area. For now, we are constrained to our immediate waking consciousness, and unable to see the subatomic particles in their wave potential state. Yet, it is evident we are part of manifesting reality. Albeit, our limited view of reality as we know it now.

Before we proceed, I would like agree with Einstein when he said, “I would like to believe the moon is there even when I don’t see it” Further in this writing I will offer a discussion of co-manifestation as it relates to consciousness that will resolve this intuitive dilemma.

The Light Cone Diagram

The Light Cone coordinates were first introduced by Paul Dirac. The groundwork for this concept was first theorized by none other than Hermann Minkowski. The Light Cone is a construct of understanding the temporal flow of time, particularly the moment of now, as it proceeds from past to future in space. Historically, at the time the Light Cone was developed; time as fourth dimension along with the three recognized dimensions of space was a new concept. I agree that the Light Cone rightly describes conceptually our perception of how reality manifests as we are traveling through time.

The usual Light Cone diagram shows the moment of now at the apex of one expanding cone of past possibilities. The diagram further shows the same moment of time, that is now, is at the apex of another expanding cone of future possibilities. The areas inside the two cones represent actual possible pasts and futures. The areas that lie outside the cones represent impossibilities.

The manifestation of reality in a Light Cone Diagram is understood as occurring in the the moment by moment flow in time at the point of now. Remember, at that time in history, this manifestation of reality was depicted as flowing along the newly defined fourth dimension of time. If we look to the reality that seemingly surrounds us, and limit ourselves to the human minds ability to efficiently frame reality in a single one dimensional construct of time this is a perfectly brilliant description of how time flows through space.

As humans we need not in anyway question this perception of the experience of now. Humbly, as humans our being fully aware of all of reality would more than likely create an overwhelming experience of reality for the human psyche. This would be especially true for the developing human psyche. We need to remain humble in light of our somewhat limited immediate waking conscious understanding of reality. As the Light Cone Demonstrates, in each moment, that is now, there occurs a conceptual line of time proceeding from past to future in space and describes the framework of reality that we are able to function within. Each moment of reality offering us a masterpiece of created light.

Time Area Theory fits ideally with the Minkowski’s explanations of Spacetime and Dirac’s Light Cone Diagram. Each human predominantly experiences the a moment by moment flow of now, as it creates an apparent individual time line. Beyond relevant to this writing and Time Area Theory is the Light Cone diagram depicts the moment of now is as an intersecting plane of shared time.

This is my initial premise in Time Area Theory. I am suggesting that we have multiple time lines thereby sharing a plane of time as we collectively experience the moment of now. Thousands of Dirac Light Cone Diagrams have been generated by physicists playing out variables, on a plane of now, with respect to Minkowski’s and Einstein’s theories. I am in no way challenging Dirac, Minkowski or Einstein. I’m in total agreement with them while offering a further developed construct for understanding Spacetime.

String Theories

It is absolutely not a joke that in order to discuss Sting Theories in a simple way one must untangle history a bit. I will start by introducing yet another bold thinker, Theodor Kaluza. Kaluza’s work emerges in 1919. Minkowski and Einstein had just established a fourth dimension of time along with the three dimensions of space. Kaluza offers the idea of more than three spacial dimensions.

It was actually Einstein’s work regarding gravity, and the General Theory of Relativity, that provoked Kaluza to start pondering. Kaluza theorized; if there’s an explanation for the force of gravity, why not try and explain the mysterious force of electromagnetism. At that time, electromagnetism and gravity were the only two observable forces recognized in physics. Now there are four.

In order for Kaluza to mathematically explain electromagnetic force he theorized the possibility of a forth dimension of space. Historically, through his writings we have the documented advent of an extra theoretical spacial dimension beyond three. What follows is a quote from Brian Greene, another one of our most brilliant physicists in the world, pertaining to Kaluza’s suggestion of a fourth spacial dimension.

“Any equivalent statement, as encountered in our discussion of special relativity, is that any location in the universe can be fully specified by giving three pieces of data: where it is relative to these three spatial dimensions. … left-right… … back-for… …up-down… And from a modern perspective, we have seen that Einstein’s work encourages us to think about time as another dimension (the ‘future-past dimension’), giving us a total of four dimensions (three space dimensions at one time dimension). You specify events in the universe by telling where and when they occur. This feature of the universe is so basic, so constant, and so thoroughly pervasive that it really does not seem beyond questioning. In 1919, however, a little-known Polish mathematician named Theodor Kaluza from the University of Konigsberg had the temerity to challenge the obvious — he suggested that the universe might not actually have three spatial dimensions; it might have more.”(Greene, The Elegant Universe)

In another quote form Brian Green during a lecture on “String Theory” he offers this description of the search for a unified theory, “He (Kaluza) like Einstein was in search of what we call a unified theory. That’s one theory that might be able to describe all of natures forces from, one set of ideas, one set of principles, one master equation, if you will.”(Green “String Theory”)

Green again goes on to share how Kaluza in trying to explain electromagnetic force looks back to Einstein’s then recent work explaining the force of gravity in the Theory of General Relativity using three dimensions of space and one dimension of time. As shared previously, Kaluza conjectures maybe there’re more spacial dimensions than the established three, i.e. a forth spacial dimension wherein in electromagnetic force can be explained. He then mathematically calculated the possibility of a fourth dimension of space to explain the mystery of electromagnetic force, and initially appeared to establish not only the plausibility of a forth dimension of space, but the bases of a unified theory. Problem is after further consideration, “…it didn’t work” (Green “String Theory”)

“…it didn’t  work.” Kaluza’s mathematics for explaining electromagnetic forces worked if there is indeed a fourth possible spacial dimension, but “Couldn’t get the mass of the electron to work out correctly in this theory.” (Green “String Theory”) Therefore a fourth dimension of space remained theoretical. And with this a “…compelling idea on how to unify the laws of physics went away.”(Green “String Theory”)

But physicist’s are tenacious. In further discussion of Kaluza’s work Green points out how yet another brilliant theoretical physicist Oskar Klein approached the possibility of more than three spacial dimensions, with this the concept of String Theory.

“In a paper he sent to Einstein in 1919, Kaluza made an astonishing suggestion. He proposed that the spatial fabric of the universe might possess more than the three dimensions of common experience. The motivation for this radical thesis… was Kaluza’s realization that it provided an elegant and compelling framework for weaving together Einstein’s General relativity and Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory into a single, unified conceptual framework. But, more immediately, how can this proposal be squared with the apparent fact that we see precisely three spatial dimensions? The answer, implicit in Kaluza’s work and subsequently made explicit and refined it by the Swedish mathematician Oskar Klein in 1926, is that the special fabric of our universe they have both extended and curled-up dimensions.”(Greene, The Elegant Universe 187-188)

We now have the Kaluza-Klein Theory wherein a theoretical two dimensional spacial line might actually be more like a two dimensional string upon closer look. This string theoretically could contain a tiny fourth spacial dimension within it. This theoretical fourth spacial dimension inside the two dimensional string, is sometimes referred as the fifth dimension, in order to follow pattern of leaving time in its fourth dimensional place. This is the genesis of String Theory.

I get it. It’s genius. Klein at that time was theorizing a conceptual dimension, inside of a conceptual dimension, as possible explanation for the force of electromagnetism. I’m suggesting another possible theory. Instead of adding more, and as we will see more and more, spacial dimensions I’m adding two more temporal dimensions.

Electromagnetism would continue to function in a Spacetime Area. Further in this paper, I will consider how all four fundamental forces in physics Electromagnetism, Gravity, Strong, and Weak Nuclear Forces, as they are recognized at this time, will function in a Spacetime Area.

Super String Theories

String Theory over the decades becomes known as Super String Theory and suggests a total of nine spacial dimensions and one of time, ten dimensions in total. In 1995 Witton introduces M-Theory which is now the premier level of Super String Theory. M-Theory adds 10 dimensions of space to one of time, 11 dimensions in total. Further, M-Theory proposes that deep inside subatomic particles are vibrating strings of energy existing at the core of everything. It should be noted this is actually a major conceptual leap from the original String Theory.

What follows are excerpts from a lecture done by Brian Greene on String Theory. I want to take a moment and again point out that I think Brian Greene is one of the foremost physicist of our time and his ability to explain deep concepts of physics clearly is an indication of his depth of understanding.

From Greene’s talk on “String Theory” “A new approach to unify the laws of physics is Super String Theory.” “Deep inside any of these particles (such as quarks) is something else. This something else is a dancing filament of energy that looks like a vibrating string” “If these ideas are correct this is what the ultra-microscopic landscape of the universe looks like. It’s built up of a huge number of these little tiny filaments of vibrating energy.”

“And there you see unification, because matter particles, electrons and quarks, radiation particles, photons, gravitons, are all built up from one entity. So matter and the forces of nature are all put together under the rubric of vibrating strings. And that’s what we mean by a unified theory.” (Green String Theory Lecture)

“Now here is the catch. …it works only in a universe that has 10 dimensions of space and one dimension of time.” (Green String Theory Lecture)

This last quote by Greene bears repeating: “Now here is the catch. …it works only in a universe that has 10 dimensions of space and one dimension of time.” Theoretically.

In studying these ten dimensions of space and one of time theories, 10+1. I found myself venturing out and finding a vast array of dimensional theories, and not all in total agreement. As one studies various theories of spacial dimensions surrounding us today the range becomes almost limitless. I endeavored to narrow the multitude of spacial dimensional theories to the one which appears most consistently held by some of the top physicists of our time. Upon much rigorous reading the 11 dimension theory; 10 of space plus 1 of time, or M-Theory appears to be the standard now in Theoretical Physics. Succinctly stated, there is a general consensus among the top physicists of our time as to there being theoretically 11 dimensions. Ten dimensions of space and one dimension of time are expounded by Brian Greene, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and Michio Kaku among others.

I concur with the aforementioned physicists that that Super String Theory is sound. Super String Theory and more concisely M-Theory are plausible and there could be strands of energy at the core of subatomic particles in the quantum realms. Still, Super String Theory in any of its forms including M-Theory as it stands today, is not completely formulated.

It was this adding more and more spacial dimensions to Sting Theory over the last hundred years that lead me to a Gordian Knot. How to untangle? I simply asked what if the answer could be something else completely different. Why not look at time as the multi-dimensional factor? Cut through the knot of spacial dimension theories by returning to the three established dimensions of space, the actual reality we exist in, as recognized by fundamental classical physics. From here, I developed Time Area Theory.

It doesn’t demand ten more theoretical dimensions of space for Super String, or M-Theory to work. Only the first three dimensions of space will suffice, if we add three dimensions to time, 3+3. From the earlier discussion of Dimensions; “One dimensional lines of space can measure infinitely short or infinitely long.” “Two dimensional planes of space can measure infinitely small or infinitely large.” “Three dimensional areas of space can measure infinitely small or infinitely vast.”  Applying Time Area Theory to subatomic particles would imply that within subatomic particles there exists all six dimensions of space and time areas. Subatomic particles as they exist in the recognized three dimensional space have room, or an area inside of them. In this area one does not need to add any more spacial dimensions for subatomic particles to carry the vibrational energies proposed by M-String Theory. Everything fits.

Holographic Theories

The common denominator of Holographic Theories is that reality is a single dimensional design. The basic assertion is that reality is like a hologram, or is actually a hologram, depending on the theorist. In either case, reality is a projection, image or even an illusion based in a primary single dimensional design.

Holographic Theory also maintains that down to a subatomic level all particular matter holds the blueprint and entire image of all reality. This is comparative to an actual hologram in that when divided into smaller pieces each separate piece retains the entire holographic image.

In essence, I would agree with Holographic Theories general premise of a design based on single dimensions. I was clear in my description of spacial dimensions to begin building from one dimensional lines, to two dimensional planes, to three dimensional areas. Then following the same construct with time in Time Area Theory. A hologram offers a metaphor to help explain aspects of the limited reality we are able to consciously perceive. Still, I am cautious of pushing the metaphor of a hologram too far. I don’t think that reality is only a hologram.

I most certainly agree with the premise that we as humans don’t consciously perceive all of reality in our immediate waking conscious. Time Area Theory affirms a potential reality beyond our limited perception. Actually, Time Area Theory could support Holographic Theory’s notion of the whole existing within the smallest of matter. For within any subatomic particle there still exists the whole construct of the Spacetime Area. I would offer this metaphor; within each subatomic particle there is held the six dimensional construct likened to the complete design of an organism being held within each DNA strand.

Holographic Theory, and the many sub-theories surrounding it do suggest another even more salient point. The reason people question reality as it appears is due to the intrinsic nature of sensing there is something more beyond the established four dimensional reality. I concur with this completely, and also ascribe to there being Something More.

Returning to the consideration of the Double Slit Experiments and particle manifestation; we indeed are experiencing a moment by moment wave potential collapse into reality based on consciousness. No doubt we are seeing energy manifested into reality. Looking back to the Light Cone Diagrams discussion I stated, “Each moment offering us a masterpiece of created light.”

Multiverse Theories

The Multiverse Theory at its core suggests that there is the possibility of there being Multiple Universes besides ours. The multitude of theories then generated around the Multiverse Theory become boundless. I hope to substantiate the Multiverse Theory as a logical probability and therefore a plausible theory. Then to consider how it also fits within the construct of Time Area Theory.

In a space area of three dimensions we can conceivably be anywhere in space. In a time area of three dimensions we can conceivably be anywhere in time. If we recognize three dimensions of time along with three dimension of space creating in a combined Spacetime Area then all variable possibilities can potentially exist. Time Area Theory offers a construct wherein we can place everything from Werner Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle to Schrodinger’s cat.

I have already mentioned Hiesenberg Uncertainty Principle in the discussion of the Quantum Event associated with the Double Slit Experiment. I will elaborate on his work a bit more now as I also introduce Erwin Schrodinger. Werner Heisenberg in 1927 defines the Uncertainty Principle that states we cannot know for certain where particles actually are, or how fast they are actually moving, until we measure them. It’s understood they can be absolutely anywhere until they are measured. This is known as Superposition.

Erwin Schrodinger demonstrates with his thought experiment that Quantum Physics, The Uncertainty Principle and Multiple Universe possibilities create logical dilemmas. The difficulty with all possibilities existing in the Multiverse Theory is that it wanders into absurdity. Not only is Schrodinger’s cat both dead and alive, ultimately there is an infinite amount of universes with just dead cats. For those familiar with Schrodinger’s cat this is not a slight. It is a substantiation of Schrodinger’s point. A time area coexisting with a space area allows a construct for both Hiesenberg’s Uncertainty Principle and Schrodinger’s cat to live together peacefully.

Can all possibilities potentially exist in a Spacetime Area maintaining Uncertainty as a Principle? Yes. Time Area Theory offers an even more reasonable construct for understanding Uncertainty. A construct of a Spacetime Area where all possibilities of anywhere, and all possibilities of anytime concurrently potentially exist.

Do all possible universes actually exist? All possibilities could but do not necessarily have to exist. There is a difference between potential existence and actual existence. There could be a scenario that all possible universes actually exist. There could be a scenario where all possible universes potentially exist, but only a limited amount actually do exist. And, there could be a scenario where all possibilities potentially exist but only one universe actually does exist. A Spacetime Area would allow for all of these potential scenarios.

It is intellectually fascinating to consider the arguments for each of the possible scenarios listed above. I have my opinion; but for the sake of this writing my opinion on this isn’t necessary. What’s important is that Time Area Theory offers a construct for all of the possible scenarios.

Space Bending and Curving

Einstein in 1905 published his Theory of Relativity now known as his Theory of Special Relativity. It demonstrates that the speed of time flows slower for one object traveling through space relative to the speed of another object. Time become a definable measurable length and time itself was granted the honor of being a recognized as the fourth dimension.

1915 rolls around and Einstein publishes his General Theory of Relativity which demonstrates that space bends or curves. Einstein proposes this theory to explain the force of gravity. This bending and curving of space explains the influence of the force of gravitation on mass.

Picture two people holding the four corners of a cloth sheet somewhat tightly, suspending it in the air. Next imagine a third person tossing a large stone onto the suspended sheet so as to create a bending or curving of the sheet down toward where the stone rests on the fabric. Finally, imagine that this third person continues to toss smaller pebbles onto the sheet. Each pebble seeks to find its way at the lowest point on the sheet where the heavier stone rests. This is where the metaphor of the Fabric of Space comes in. It is used to describe the nature of space bending and curving, and how gravitational force works in the Theory of General Relativity.

Of course there are some mysteries. There are rules to mathematics. Such as two parallel lines should never intersect, or that the three inside corners of triangles will always add up to 180 degrees. In Euclidian Mathematics or Geometry there is a rule that rules are absolute laws and must remain constant. But bending and curving space doesn’t follow these rules.

Evidence substantiating Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity about space bending and curving is apparent in Astrophysics. Such as, light can be seen to curve or bend around stars, this is called Lensing. Also, light gets captured in the gravitation of Black Holes, and more. The theory that light would bend to the force of gravitation predates Einstein. Newton theorized light to be like corpuscles, which we now know to be the forerunner conceptually of photons, and by having mass would be drawn toward larger masses. While the observable bending of light around huge gravitational masses may substantiate the curvature of space it also creates even more mystery.

Let’s return for a moment to Quantum Physics with everything existing in the form of a wave potential until observed by a conscious being wherein it collapses into particles of matter. If light is in a wave potential when not being observed, and therefore not a particle of matter, why is it subject to gravity? Then even if space curving explains gravity, why does light bend around stars and get caught by black holes while in its, nonmaterial, wave potential state? What is the nature of light when not being observed? I’m not questioning at all that space bends and curves. I hope further substantiate space bending and curving and to offer an explanation of how light and all subatomic particles in a wave potential state are still is subject to the force of gravitation.

The Time Area construct actually explains the ability for space to bend and curve. We perceive spacial reality as x,y,z coordinates, that is points in three dimensional space defined by height, width and depth. We then perceive this point as flowing through a single dimension of time. It’s the construct of recognizing only a single dimension of time that is demanding the limit of everything existing in a particular x,y,z spacial coordinate. This doesn’t question Einstein’s x1, y1, z1, t1 understanding of our apparent reality, it eliminates the need for any x, y, z, and, or t to be maintained in a Spacetime Area. A Spacetime Area takes away the spacial and temporal coordinate limitations and explains space bends and curves. All the more, it as mentioned previously, it completely substantiates Superposition.

Think of an individual subatomic particle. In a Spacetime Area subatomic particles exist anywhere and anytime. In Time Area Theory both space and time freely bend and curve. That same particle while existing in a wave potential of infinite possibilities, still exists, and is subject to the force gravity. As stated earlier while considering String Theory, “all four fundamental forces in physics Electromagnetism, Gravity, Strong, and Weak Nuclear Forces, as they are recognized at this time, will function in a Spacetime Area.” Now I will add whether in a state of a wave potential of energy or as matter. I’ll return to this again in considering Dark Energy and Matter. First I will explore more of the implications of both space and time curving and bending.

Worm Holes

Minkowski Spacetime and Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity lead to the theoretical  possibilities of Worm Holes. Worm Holes are short cuts through space. Picture a plane of space as like a sheet of paper. Imagine starting to fold, that is bending or curving the paper bringing the distance between the two opposite sides of the sheet closer to each other. Apply this same folding or curving to a conceptual plane of space.

Theoretically there is an opportunity to travel less distance between the two points in space because they’ve curved closer to each other. If we were to travel through this new shorter distance it is described metaphorically as like traveling through a Worm Hole. We would travel through some alternate form of space like a worm through its tunnel. One of the many theories for this Worm Hole area is there must be other dimensions of space. What this alternate form of spacial dimension is remains a mystery.

The 3+3 construct with space and time each having three dimensions in Time Area Theory would offer a plausible explanation to answer where we would be in a Worm Hole. I am building on the foundation of Minkowski’s and Einstein’s work. As my mentor Dr. Nicholas Cooper-Lewter often said, “There are always new levels.” As for potentially traveling through Worm Holes everything holds as has been theorized just taken to a new level. There is no need for a tunnel of different spacial dimensions, or a spacial distortion.

Travel would be moving through a Spacetime Area. Momentarily returning to the usual two dimensional description in order to move forward, the folded sheet of paper, or more correctly the curved spacial plane would come together meet itself, anywhere and everywhere, anytime and all the time. Time Area Theory would suggest a Spacetime Area wherein travel wouldn’t just be quicker, it would be instantaneous. This harkens back to Quantum Leaps and Entanglement and would fit with their instantaneous nature.

Once again, Time Area Theory does not in anyway nullify the anywhere in space potentials of a wave particle state. It simple adds an anytime potential of a time area to the anywhere potential of space area. A Spacetime Area allows the particle to still exist, and be in a wave potential anywhere because they are not subject to being in single place spacial x,y,z coordinate at one time. Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle is maintained and Superposition is more fully realized. Theoretically in a Spacetime Area travel could be instantaneous.

Black Holes

Black Holes exist in space and are comprised of such dense matter that as mentioned before even light can’t escape their gravitational pull. Stephen Hawkings has deduced that all laws of established physics regarding space and time break down within them. Hawkings has further suggested it is possible that Black Holes could provide a portal to other universes. Absolutely.

What shelf in the construct of Time Area Theory could Black Holes be set upon? The answer is the same place as all other matter. My basic premise is subatomic particles have the ability to exist in a three dimensional space area and a three dimensional time area. This would apply whether the particles are structured in the gaseous nature of a nebula or the solid density of a Black Hole.

Time Area Theory is in complete agreement with Hawkings that the laws of physics as we define them in now 3+1 Spacetime would break down in a Black Hole. What we observe in a Black Hole is a super density of matter and therefore a dramatic portrayal of subatomic particles existing in the 3+3 Spacetime Area construct. Black Holes because of their super density become opportunities for us to actually see the Spacetime Area. Because a Spacetime Area holds all potentials of both anywhere and anytime when observing a Black Hole we are glimpsing into an infinite realm of potentials. This fits with Hawkings suggestion of how Black Holes may indeed offer a portal into other universes, or potential multiverses. I ask you to refer back to my consideration of Multiverse Theory.

In Time Area Theory the three dimensions of time are not separate from the three dimensions of space. The 3+3, six dimensional construct actually clarifies Spacetime as it occurs in a Black Hole. In a Spacetime Area not only does space bend and curve, time also bends and curves. Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity suggests nothing exceeds the speed of light. Hawkings points out within Black Holes there is an event horizon where in velocity begins to exceed the speed of light. With Time Area Theory, light like everything else is no longer subject to spacial or temporal limitations as we perceive them.

Time Area Theory agrees with Hawkings without contradicting Einstein. In our immediate waking conscious state, speed or velocity is a manifestation of apparent movement. In our limited human ability to perceive the full nature of reality, light is that which travels at the fastest velocity. Einstein was correct in stating nothing exceeds the speed of light. In a Spacetime Area speed itself is irrelevant. In a Black Hole speed and velocity as we experience them aren’t just different, they cease to exist. Everything is everywhere and anytime. Travel, or any movement is instantaneous.

Dark Matter and Dark Energy

Dark Matter and Dark Energy are called dark because they can’t be seen. Dark Matter and Dark Energy can be observed by their effects on other things in the universe. For example as galaxies spin, it can be shown that their rate of spin toward the outer edges is faster than it should be. This was discovered by Jan Oort in 1932. What Dark Matter and Dark Energy actually are, is a huge mystery. Whatever they are, there’s a lot. There’s estimates that Dark Matter and Dark Energy together comprise 95 percent of the known universe.

The fact that we can’t see something shouldn’t be surprising. The visible light that we see with our eyes is a small slice of the electromagnetic spectrum. Radio waves, microwaves, infrared light, ultraviolet light, x-rays and gamma rays all are outside the ability of humans to see with our eyes. With instruments we can see further out on the electromagnetic spectrum in both directions beyond our physical abilities. We definitely see and have harnessed the powers of these invisible forces. The idea that our current level of technological instrumentation thus far lacks the ability to see Dark Matter and Dark Energy isn’t really surprising at all.

Dark Matter and Dark Energy offer the greatest line of reasoning for Time Area Theory. There is a Spacetime Area of reality that we can’t see because it exists beyond the abilities of our limited immediate consciousness. Dark Matter and Dark Energy exist in the Spacetime Area. Subatomic particles exist as both states of energy and matter in an anywhere, and anytime, Spacetime Area.

Once again, a 3+3, six dimensional Spacetime Area of Time Area Theory allows for a construct in which subatomic particles can exist as matter or in the energy of wave potentials. Time Area Theory gives us a construct to possibly understand what Dark Matter and Dark Energy are. A Spacetime Area allows for how these particles and energy can exist anywhere and anytime realm where we can’t see them. This is literally what Dark Matter and Dark Energy are by definition.

We are going to move into discussions of Psychology and Consciousness next. While we are still considering Dark Matter and Dark Energy I’m going to venture, that it’s not that we never see it. We just can’t see it with our immediate waking consciousness and current understandings of the constructs of reality. We literally don’t see it when it is right in front of us.

I would like to offer an analogy. Picture Dark Matter and Dark Energy as the paints in the bucket of a six dimensional Spacetime Area. From these paints we co-create the masterpiece of light we call reality with the paint brushes of our consciousness. I emphasize, co-create, for I do not think we are alone in this process.

Scientific advancement has brought us to a place and time where we can definitely know there is Something More beyond our limited senses and immediate waking consciousness. I have communicated regarding various topics of Physics, Astrophysics and Quantum physics in order to open further discussion around Time Area Theory and how the construct of a Spacetime Area may plausibly exist. This brings me to a consideration of the nature of consciousness, subconsciousness and some of psychology’s mysteries.

Deep Psychology

Time Area Theory would also help with some of the great mysteries in Psychology. Specifically Time Area Theory could help explain Synchronicity and Acausal experiences as quantified by the venerable Carl Jung. Freud and Jung were to Psychology what Einstein and Minkowski were to Physics.
Jung’s writing on Synchronicity as an Acausal Connecting Principle demonstrates that as humans we have countless experiences, statistically far beyond coincidence, that indicate a subconscious connection with other humans. He would refer to this subconscious connection as the Collective Unconscious.

Jung and Freud were only beginning to discuss whether to refer to what we now commonly know as the subconscious, as the subconscious; rather than the unconscious. They considered both subconscious and superconscious but were concerned that with the term superconscious people would get to side tracked in religious debate. I have already in the consideration of consciousness added Super-subconscious to more rightly describe a subatomic level of consciousness in a Spacetime Area.

One of the amazing things Jung did was to demonstrate statistically, beyond question, that humans have unexplainable experiences that defy causal explanation. This connection he termed Synchronicity. Synchronicity includes so many various forms of acausal experiences that it’s difficult to offer a comprehensive list. One example includes documented cases wherein people have specific knowledge of an event that occurs far away from them that should have been impossible to know. Such as knowing when a loved one dies thousands of miles away before word arrives. Other examples of acausal experiences would include people having had foreknowledge of events before they occur. I hope the connection to Quantum Entanglement isn’t lost.

Dreams offer more fertile ground for more synchronistic events. Near death, or life after death experiences offer even more examples. I could go on, and on; this was Jung’s point, there are countless completely validated examples of acausal experiences. Jung documents authenticated cases of people having acausal events concisely.

Time Area Theory fits seamlessly with deeper understanding of Psychology and specifically with Jung’s Synchronicity as an Acausal Connecting Principle. A Spacetime Area isn’t a place we move into and out of. A Spacetime Area is a place we already exist in, but are usually unaware of in our immediate waking consciousness. I would suggest that Jung’s Collective Unconscious demonstrates we as humans are connected with each other at a super-subconscious subatomic level. We are not generally consciously aware of this level of our reality or the connections it provides; except in glimpses. Interestingly, incredibly common highly documented glimpses of something more, or possibly Something More.

Consciousness

For about forty years now I have devoted myself to understanding the field of Psychology. My pragmatic approach drove me to continually ask what really helps people. After the first decade of work I became aware that many people were deeply influenced psychologically by their spiritual beliefs. Further, I observed these belief systems were incredibly varied from person to person. I didn’t want to feign an understanding of their beliefs. I also didn’t want to haphazardly discourage a healthy belief system or encourage an unhealthy belief system. To show respect I have endeavored to the study the history of the worlds religions, as best I could for decades in order to gain a better understanding. This is one of the primary reasons why back in the early 1990’s I have merged the pursuit of Theology with my pursuit of Psychology.

Although the many varied aspects of the Physical Sciences have fascinated me all my life; I would consider myself an admirer of the Physical Sciences, not a scientist. I saw Physics and Psychology as two separate areas of study. Like two lines both in the plane of scientific study running parallel to each other, and therefore under Euclidian Geometry never to meet. Yet, as we see through Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity things tend to bend and curve in strange ways we never expect. The revelation, through the Double Slit Experiment as discussed earlier, and the evidence that human conscious observation as a dynamic in the collapse of wave potentials to particles of matter curved Physics and Psychology toward each other, and they have now intersected.

The implications of this intersection are momentous. If we as conscious, sentient humans beings are a dynamic in the collapse of wave potentials into particles, then at least, in part, we are creating or manifesting the reality that surrounds us. As a student of Psychology and Theology; this challenged me to begin a devoted study of Physics for decades now.

We don’t know if we as conscious humans are the only ones responsible for collapsing wave potentials into particles by conscious observation thus manifesting reality. I personally doubt that we are. I think when we start to believe we can individually manifest our own complete realities, be it with the best of intentions, we are in danger of sliding into magical thinking, and disillusionment. Yet, to deny this connection of human consciousness to the manifestation of reality would be just as debilitating. I would suggest that it would be wise to think of our co-manifesting or co-creating realities with each other, and that this ability may not not exclusively belong to humans.

We as humans have magnificent brains estimated at consisting of up to a hundred billion neurons. Each of these billions of neurons have thousands of potential connections. The human mind is incredibly vast in its potentials. Still we are finite in that we exist in our corporal bodies for a limited amount of time. Within this limited amount of life span we grasp our existence in linear sense of beginning and end. As humans life appears to be a flow from past to future as we experience the moment of now.

I would postulate that we along with other sentient life, with differing levels of consciousness, are co-manifesting the wave potential collapses that constitute reality in this apparent temporal flow, as we experience it. This of course begs the question; what should be considered other sentient life? For now, I would suggest that all life is sentient at levels we may not fully understand and all life plays a part in the co-manifestation of reality. What’s more, By all life I mean even life beyond our immediate waking conscious ability to see or understand. Time Area Theory suggests a construct where there is a potential of other sentient life to exist in the six dimensional Spacetime Area.

A Spacetime Area that exists but remains beyond the scope of our conscious awareness as humans. We know that we are, like everything else, actually made up of subatomic particles. The subatomic nature of subconsciousness is evidenced in advancements of genetic and epigenetic research. We know that the subconscious is at some level a subatomic process. What if at a subatomic, subconscious level we are unconstrained by space and time? What if at a subatomic super-subconscious level we coexist in the Spacetime Area?

The six dimensional Time Area Theory offers a construct of thinking wherein we already exist in the Spacetime Area. We simply lack the immediate waking conscious awareness of it. As Jung quantifies most humans intuitively sense, and have experiences, glimpses, and revelations of this subatomic super-subconscious realm. This is why humans are saturated throughout history with poetic stories trying to tell of there being something more to reality, and possibly Something More of a higher c sentient consciousness than us.

Something More

Is this Something More an extension of the purely scientific material reality that somehow involves the energy of sentient consciousness? Is it a unified consciousness of all sentient life? Is it a realm of many more conscious sentient lifeforms? Does it have hierarchy of sentient life? Is there an Ultimate Sentient Life? I have my thoughts and beliefs. But they are not important. What’s important is that Time Area Theory offers a construct of a spacetime area for all these possible realities to exist. Out of respect to all of histories belief systems, and to the potential of the Ultimate, I am going to capitalize Something More in this writing. If you hold to a purely scientific view of something more I ask you show the same respect.

What this Something More is that exists just beyond our readily perceivable reality is a mystery. Throughout human history billions have tried to define what Something More is. Most offer definitions in hopes of communicating their sense of healthy connection or relationship to whatever the Something More beyond our immediate waking consciousness may be. These almost unlimited descriptions and definitions have served to facilitate the health and growth of the human condition in the nature of Philosophy, Religion, Spirituality, Theology and more. Sadly, this same desire to define and communicate what Something More is has lead to power and control struggles that have injured humans and humanity over and over.

This is why I am absolutely not trying to define or defend a definition of what the Something More could be. Immediately there may be some who are offended by my not doing this. That’s the point. I can’t define the essence of what Something More might be as it exists beyond our human sentience without offending almost everyone at some level.

Time Area Theory is meant to offer a reasonable theoretical understanding of reality that allows for a Spacetime Area. A Spacetime Area upon which we can consider multiple facets of physics and psychology in such a ways to harmonize them. A spacetime Area offers a rational construct to explain how human consciousness is an influence in the manifestation of reality. This indicates the possibility of there being levels of sentient life beyond and above human beings. In full intellectual honesty, as I consider my own writing, it is not without bias. I must admit that I suggest that whatever the Something More might be, we should remain humble. It would be a good to recognize we as humans may not be the highest level of sentient consciousness.

That said, imagine the potential before us! We clearly see effects of consciousness in collapsing wave potentials and thereby at least influencing if not the very force behind the co-creation of reality. What if our subatomic super-subconscious is a force existing in a Spacetime Area? Sentient conscious could be considered a fifth force of Physics, like Gravitation, Electromagnetism, the Strong, and the Weak Nuclear Forces.

What if we as humans would start to think in constructs beyond our current awareness of spacetime? Think of how history has shown that with very new level of bold thinking there has been new levels of exploration of thought that have lead to advancements.  Lightning was once just powerful flashes in a thunderstorm. Then electricity was seen as an energy. Then it was harnessed. Time Area Theory is offers a construct of thinking about time in a different way. What incredible vistas may await if we can perceive there exists a Spacetime Area. An Area wherein there is the freedom associated with time that we now experience with space.

Some would argue I am now presenting humanism and the infinite progression of the human condition. This could not be more wrong. While we clearly see that we as humans can advance we must acknowledge in our mortal bodies we are limited. Our physical bodies and human minds are not infinite.

We as humans are amazing, but I would suggest there is Something More beyond us. We are not alone in the formation of this masterpiece of light. I would further suggest we might not be the most powerful conscious force in the universe. Imagine the positive advancements we could make if we as humanity had a construct of understanding reality that allowed for a Spacetime Area and considered ourselves at a Subatomic Super-Subconsciousness level a part of it.

Conclusion

I’m bold enough to throw Time Area Theory and my pondering thoughts out there. I hope that others might consider the thoughts along with me. Maybe it’s all the ramblings of a madman. Maybe there’s some ideas worth exploring further. There will be those who are open to my considerations around a Spacetime Area. There will be those who dismiss it.

Mother Teresa had an inscription that was on the wall of her orphanage titled, “Do It Anyway.” A worthy read and now modified into a famous prayer. It was actually first penned as a poem called: “The Paradoxical Commandments” authored by Kent Keith in 1968. What follows is the lessor known original version.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down
by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
